W06 - Journal Entry

I actually was able to sink into the book "Mastery" this week and have, so far, absolutely enjoyed reading it.  I really enjoyed the author's description of the 3 charaters (the Dabbler, the Obsessive, and the Hacker) and how I did a lot of myself in these descriptions.     I found that I mostly have some of the Dabbler in me - I get excited about new jobs, new projects, new programs, but I find, over time, I get burnt out on the subject matter and find myself losing interest in whatever it is.  It struck me really funny to read about this in a book because I've known this about myself, but reading about it in this book was like taking a look in the mirror - I actually kind of laughed when I read it because it hit so close to home.            So how do I remedy this?  As I continued to read through the book, it really come down to a matter of learning to love the "plateau".  I've noticed that when I've hit th...

W05 Journal Entry

Reflecting on the things I've learned this week, I would have to say the assignement of "Spreading Happieness" had the most impact on me.  I say this because it was cool to see the progression of Erica's business grow from something that she loved to do.  She didn't go crazy at first as she was starting out.  She didn't have all the knowledge upfront to be able to start her business - she learned and made improvements as she went along.       It was good to see all the factors that she was considering to help grow the business further.  For myself, those options weren't something that I had thought of myself since I'm not in that situation (as of yet), but the fact that the article went through so much detail on how someone with a small business may consider to grow it was invaluable to read about.     Other than that, I'm working on the side to start my own online business.  Still kind of stuck with what type of...

W04 - Journal Entry

W04 Journal Entry     It was good to go through a couple of these writing assignments this week as it's helped me view how I should see myself while trying to start and run a business.  The "decontructing your fears" assignment was especially a good one because I learned, for one, that I'm not the only one who has these fears and that this is a totally normal feeling to have when attempting to run a business.  The assignment helped me realize that these fears can actually be mitigated as we plan and pursue our businesses to help ensure that we can be successful.     Finishing the reading of "Launching Leaders", I feel I got a lot of direction from this material in how to live and lead my life.  Even though I took a lot of notes, I feel I will need to go back and read through the material and write down even more detailed notes along with plans to implement what I learned.  There was a lot of meat included in this book that is designed to hel...

W03 - Journal Post

W03 - Journal Post Saturday, 5/8/2021     This week's lessons were geared towards Ethics and having a Code of Conduct.  We also learned about Magdalena Yesil for the Case Study we were asked to participate in.       The main focus, though, has been integrity and ensuring that we are personally holding ourselves accountable to be at our upmost best.  It's interesting because most people in the world who get themselves involved in business probably do not place so much emphasis on ethics as they should.  Considering what we've seen in the world these last days, there have been many unscrupulous companies out there that have plagued the land not caring at all for their customers or those around them.   I actually loved the talk from Elder Lynn G. Robbins where he talks about even those businesses that sell tobacco and alcohol claiming that they give their warnings to people about the possible dangers of their product, but yet they still...

W02 - Journal Post

W02 - Journal Post Friday, 5/1/2021 Why do you think Randy Pausch was able to achieve so many of his childhood dreams?                     I really enjoyed this video clip.  Randy seems like a really humble and cheerful individual.  From his lecture, he mentioned that his parents were part of why he was able to achieve so many of his childhood dreams.  They didn't squash his ideas - they allowed him to be over his little own domain - his childhood bedroom.  He was allowed to write whatever he wanted on the walls of his bedroom.  This, to me, allowed him to explore his ideas and keep the flood gates open to ideas and natural problem solving.  I can see this being the main reason why he was a great success in his own right.   Do you feel that dreaming is important? Why or why not?          Dreaming is definitely important.  Without dreams, there would be no inn...
