  • Why do you think Randy Pausch was able to achieve so many of his childhood dreams?

I really enjoyed this video clip.  Randy seems like a really humble and cheerful individual.  From his lecture, he mentioned that his parents were part of why he was able to achieve so many of his childhood dreams.  They didn't squash his ideas - they allowed him to be over his little own domain - his childhood bedroom.  He was allowed to write whatever he wanted on the walls of his bedroom.  This, to me, allowed him to explore his ideas and keep the flood gates open to ideas and natural problem solving.  I can see this being the main reason why he was a great success in his own right.

  • Do you feel that dreaming is important? Why or why not?

Dreaming is definitely important.  Without dreams, there would be no innovation in this world.  We would not continue to have situations where things are continually being invented and improved to help make our lives just a little bit better.  For me, I've always dreamed of having my own successful business.  As of late, I have been feeding the desire to bring this dream to reality by continually studying and learning all I can about business and how to be successful in it.

  • Discuss at least one of your childhood dreams. Explain why you believe you can or cannot achieve this dream.

Oh boy...  When I was a kid, I dreamed of building one of those large robots from the animated television series called "Voltron" that I would watch back in the early 80's.  Of course, that dream was very lofty at that time.  But, to someone else, that wasn't the case.  I noticed an article the other day of someone or some company in Japan that had actually built one of those robots for real and to scale!  It must have been a monumental achievement as these robots are VERY large!  But, this goes to show me that anything we thought of as a kid can be brought into reality.  It's a matter of our desire and drive to bring those dreams to reality.
