W10 Journal

I should have been doing this all along... I'm keeping notes here in my journal of articles I read through the week and passages that speak to me.      I loved the article " The Challenge to Become " by Elder Oaks.  I learned that it's not enough to just have a testimony, but that you also need to have a conversion.  This is the only way to BECOME something instead of thinking we just KNOW something.  It's implied that there is action that must be had.  It states in his talk - " The gospel challenges us to be “converted,” which requires us to do and to become . "       " The gospel of Jesus Christ is the plan by which we can become what children of God are supposed to become. This spotless and perfected state will result from a steady succession of covenants, ordinances, and actions, an accumulation of right choices, and from continuing repentance . “This life is the time for men to prepare ...

This week definitely got away from me.  I knew that I would be leaving town for a Family Reunion on Thursday afternoon, so I had planned to finish up all my school work by Wednesday night.  Well, I wasn't able to complete everything by Wednesday night and I told myself that I would log in from the Family Reunion and finish up the last of my assignments...  Well, that never happened.  We spent both Friday and Saturday out in the sun up in Boise Idaho and I was completely drained both days and didn't even think about School work as I went home and crashed!     Anyway, I wanted to include this in my write up because there's something for me to learn from this - don't keep putting off things that you know need to be taken care of.  You never know what will come up.  Postponement rarely pays off!

This week has flown by - a lot of issues at my work this week that needed to be dealt with, and I also spent the whole Saturday helping my wife run a dance recital for our good friend.  Sure glad it's Sunday tomorrow!        I really enjoyed this week's reading assignments.  I always love reading and listening to talks by Jeffrey R Holland - I would have to say he's probably the #1 apostle that I look forward to hearing from when conference rolls around!  There's something about how his talks resonate with my soul.  I firmly believe that the Savior instituted 12 apostles so that all personalities will have something resonate with them depending on the message and who that messenger is!      The biggest take away for me this week from all the reading material was to make sure that we don't simply give up when faced with difficult situations.  It takes time sometimes to ensure things are going to work ou...

W07 - Journal Post

This has been an interesting week...  My work week has been full of odd ordeals, things that I don't normally deal with.  One of the main things was dealing with an individual had come to work reeking of alcohol.  As you could imagine, this created a very awkward situation in which the individual had to be escorted off the premises.     As for the materials we were given this week to read, I enjoyed the principles from Steven R Covey - 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.  As I read through these, I couldn't help but think of the story of Enos from the Book of Mormon.  In the one chapter, we read how he prayed to be forgiven and then he eventually started to pray for others once he got himself figured out.  The 7 Habits pretty much follow that same principle.  The 1st 3 habits deal with working on yourself, the next 3 you're working to help others.  That last habit, to me, feels like you're working on "enduring to th...
